• When you place an order, please specify if you need your knife for a specific date. I do my best to facilitate orders such as birthday presents.

After placing your order, you will go on the waiting list and be provided with an estimate of the commencement date and the expected cost. No deposits are due until the build commences.

When your order is next on the list I will contact you to finalise the design and quotation. At that stage a 50% deposit is required.

When the knife is complete the final 50% is due. Once your final payment is received your knife will be posted or a collection from my workshop can be arranged.

  • Labour is by far the biggest cost to make knives. Each handmade knife can easily take 20 hours to design, build, package, and ship.

For a basic carbon steel the cost of the raw material is actually quite low. That price increases with more exotic steels or laminated steels.

The cost of the handle is the next most expensive part and building and fitting these takes just as long for a large knife as it does for a small knife.

The cost of abrasives is quite considerable and increases with the size and type of steel.

  • Our pricing is build on a base price for the style of steel and then increases as the knife increases in height and/or length. The bigger the knife, the higher the base cost of the steel, the amount of abrasive required and the time taken to polish the blade.

As a general guide, a 210 x 50mm gyuto in carbon steel is ~$600 aud plus postage. Typically for every additional 30mm of blade length the price increases $50.

Please get in touch for a formal quote.

  • Shipping is at the cost of the buyer and is additional to a quoted price unless specified otherwise.

Shipping insurance is also at the cost of the buyer. I strongly recommend using full insurance for any knives posted. Insurance costs $2.50 AUD per $100 of the value of the knife.

In the case of loss or damage in transit and insurance claim will be made and the knife will either be repaired or replaced.

Partial insurance is also available but the customer must make up the difference between the total value of the knife and the insured value if the knife is to be replaced.

Local collection from my workshop in Melbourne can be arranged.
